Dhaka, January 17, 2026 — The Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (PICT), located in Keraniganj on the western outskirts of Dhaka, has officially resumed operations under the management of Switzerland-based Medlog Bangladesh Private Limited, marking a significant milestone for Bangladesh’s port management and inland waterway logistics sector.
The terminal’s operations were formally inaugurated on Saturday morning by Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Ministry of Shipping and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Shipping Adviser said that upgrading the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal to international standards would increase inland container movement and strengthen multimodal transport connectivity. He described the initiative as “opening a new horizon for port management and inland water transport in Bangladesh.”
He further noted that the government’s key objective is to transform long-loss-making but strategically important infrastructure into profitable and efficient assets through professional and competent private-sector management. The Adviser also encouraged Medlog to expand its investments and operational footprint across other inland river ports and container terminals in the country.
Addressing the event as a special guest, Dr. Nurunnahar Chowdhury, NDC, Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, stated that the 22-year concession agreement would significantly enhance cargo handling efficiency at the terminal, contributing positively to the national economy. She emphasized that the public–private partnership model reflected the government’s commitment to achieving long-term logistics and infrastructure development goals and thanked Medlog Bangladesh for coming forward with the investment.
The ceremony was also attended by Rear Admiral M. Moniruzzaman, Chairman of the Chattogram Port Authority, while the welcome address was delivered by A. T. M. Anisul Millat, Managing Director of Medlog Bangladesh Private Limited. In his remarks, he outlined Medlog’s vision for the terminal, including modernization initiatives, operational efficiency improvements, and a long-term management roadmap under Medlog’s global standards.
Originally constructed at a cost of approximately BDT 155 crore, the Pangaon Inland Container Terminal had been operating at a loss for nearly a decade. In response, the government decided to bring the facility under experienced private management to restore efficiency and financial viability.
Under a 22-year concession agreement signed in November, Medlog Bangladesh Private Limited—an affiliate of global logistics giant Medlog—has assumed responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and modernization of the terminal in partnership with the Chattogram Port Authority.
Industry stakeholders view the revival of PICT as a strategic move to decongest seaports, reduce logistics costs, and strengthen inland container transport, supporting Bangladesh’s growing trade and industrial ecosystem.
