Dhaka, September 3, 2026: Standard Chartered Bangladesh has appointed Mohammad Enamul Huque as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective September 1, 2026, marking the elevation of a veteran banker who has spent more than two decades with the institution.

The appointment was officially announced by Standard Chartered Bangladesh on September 1. Huque brings 25 years of experience with Standard Chartered across Bangladesh and other international markets, with expertise spanning Corporate and Institutional Banking and Risk Management. His experience includes working with local corporates, commodity trading and agribusiness, global subsidiaries and financial institutions, alongside leading strategic client relationships and major transactions.

Before taking over as CEO, Huque served as Country Chief Risk Officer and Senior Credit Officer from April 2025, where he was responsible for overseeing risk across the bank’s Bangladesh franchise and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and the bank’s growth objectives. He also chaired Standard Chartered Bangladesh’s Diversity and Inclusion Council.

His career at Standard Chartered has included several senior leadership positions. In 2018, he was appointed Head of Global Banking, and he subsequently held senior roles in corporate, commercial and institutional banking. Standard Chartered’s current profile describes him as Managing Director and Country Head of Corporate, Commercial and Institutional Banking.

Beyond his responsibilities at the bank, Huque has also contributed to Bangladesh’s broader business and financial-sector ecosystem. He served as Co-Chair of the Standing Committee on Capital Markets and Bond at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for the 2023–2025 term.

Huque holds an MBA from Mount Eliza Business School, Monash University, Australia, along with graduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of Dhaka.

Commenting on his appointment, Huque said the bank has been his professional identity for more than 25 years and described the CEO role as both a recognition and a major responsibility. He said his priority would be to continue strengthening Standard Chartered’s position as an international “super connector” while remaining a trusted partner to clients, regulators, communities and other stakeholders.

The leadership transition comes after the departure of Naser Ezaz Bijoy, who had served as CEO of Standard Chartered Bangladesh for nearly nine years. Huque now takes charge of the Bangladesh franchise at a time when international banking, trade connectivity, risk management and cross-border financial services are becoming increasingly important to the country’s corporate sector.

Standard Chartered has maintained a long-standing presence in Bangladesh and continues to position the country as an important market within its international banking network. The bank’s official announcement confirms Huque’s appointment as part of its latest leadership transition.
