Dhaka’s Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6 project is set to become BDT 755 crore cheaper, following a fresh revision by the implementing agency. This reduction comes after the authority decided to remove several non-essential components, including four proposed station plazas and additional land acquisition plans.
According to the updated cost structure, the revision will help cut expenses in several segments such as civil works, electrical installations, and consultancy costs. This marks the third major revision since Bangladesh’s first metro rail project began.
However, despite the cost reduction, officials indicated that the overall project timeline may extend to December 2028. The likely extension stems from added expenses related to interest payments, staffing requirements, and the newly approved Kamalapur extension, which requires additional coordination and construction adjustments.
The MRT Line-6, currently operational from Uttara to Motijheel, remains one of the most significant transport infrastructure projects in the country. The revision aims to ensure efficient use of public funds while maintaining project quality and operational safety.
