Bangladesh will continue to enjoy duty-free access to the United Kingdom (UK) market for its exports until 2029, a decision expected to significantly support the country’s trade growth in the coming years. The announcement was made by the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cooke, during the HSBC Export Excellence Awards 2025 held in Dhaka.
According to Cooke, nearly 92 percent of Bangladesh’s exports, including the crucial ready-made garment (RMG) sector, are expected to retain the duty-free benefit even beyond 2029. She noted that this continuity will help Bangladesh expand and diversify its export portfolio, creating more opportunities for businesses to enter new product categories and markets.
Highlighting the importance of strong bilateral ties, Cooke said the decision reflects the UK’s long-term commitment to deepening trade relations and strengthening future economic cooperation with Bangladesh. She emphasized that maintaining these trade facilities will support sustainable growth and reinforce the partnership between the two countries.
The announcement comes at a time when Bangladesh is preparing for its upcoming LDC graduation, making market access assurances from key partners like the UK vital for export resilience.
