Pubali Bank PLC has entered the prestigious Tk1,000 crore profit club among locally owned banks in Bangladesh, reporting a record net profit of Tk1,090 crore for the year 2025—marking a major milestone in its financial history.

The bank’s profit surged by approximately 40% year-on-year, up from Tk780 crore in 2024, driven by strong growth in investment income, commissions, and other operating revenues despite pressure on net interest margins.

Strong Income Growth Despite Cost Pressures

Pubali Bank’s earnings were significantly supported by a sharp rise in income from government securities. Investment income jumped to Tk3,546 crore in 2025 from Tk2,062 crore a year earlier—an increase of around 72%, helping offset rising funding costs.

At the same time, interest income from loans also increased to Tk6,697 crore, reflecting steady expansion in its lending portfolio. However, higher deposit costs—up 33% year-on-year—put pressure on net interest income, prompting the bank to strategically rebalance toward treasury investments.

Operational Strength and Asset Quality

The bank’s strong performance was further supported by prudent risk management and solid asset quality. Its non-performing loan (NPL) ratio remained relatively low at around 2.2%, indicating effective credit discipline and recovery mechanisms.

Pubali Bank also maintained a large and diversified balance sheet, with a loan portfolio of approximately Tk71,000 crore and significant exposure to government securities worth around Tk30,000 crore.

Dividend and Shareholder Returns

In line with its record profitability, the bank declared a 30% dividend for 2025, comprising 15% cash and 15% stock—up from 25% total dividend in the previous year—further enhancing shareholder value.

Industry Positioning

With this achievement, Pubali Bank PLC joins leading private banks such as BRAC Bank Limited and The City Bank Limited in crossing the Tk1,000 crore profit threshold, reflecting its growing competitiveness in Bangladesh’s banking sector.

Broader Growth Momentum

Beyond profit, the bank also demonstrated strong operational momentum. Its operating profit crossed Tk3,000 crore for the first time, supported by growth in deposits, advances, and trade financing activities, signaling sustained expansion and customer confidence.
