A group of young students from The Tech Academy (TTA) in Dhaka will represent Bangladesh at the FIRST Global Challenge (FGC) 2025, an international robotics competition set to take place in Panama in the last week of October 2025. The event will host student teams from over 190 countries, all competing to tackle global challenges through science, technology, and engineering.
Team Bangladesh has already built its primary robot two months ahead of schedule, allowing extra time for testing and skill enhancement. In addition, a second robot was completed a month before the competition, which the team also plans to take. According to Shams Jaber, Founder and CEO of The Tech Academy, “Team Bangladesh is composed of six members under the age of 15, and they have completed around 100 practice matches. Using their own software, the team analyzed performance data and simulated real-world conditions.”
The theme for FGC 2025 is “Eco Equilibrium”, focusing on balancing environmental sustainability. Teams will collaborate under a model known as “coopetition”—a blend of cooperation and competition. Each round will require teams from different nations to work together, exchange performance data, and refine their strategies collectively.
Founder Dean Kamen explained, “The world’s greatest challenge today is climate change and its impact on biodiversity. This theme will inspire students to think critically about maintaining harmony between technology and the environment.”
The Tech Academy has long been a pioneer in robotics education and training in Bangladesh. In 2019, Team Bangladesh ranked 7th globally in the FIRST Global Challenge, and in 2020, they became the online world champions—a proud milestone for the country.
In the 2025 edition, teams will complete 10 specific tasks within 25 minutes across three competition days. Beyond competition, this event aims to foster STEM education and global collaboration among young innovators.
This participation marks another step forward in showcasing the talent and potential of Bangladesh’s youth in the international arena, bridging local innovation with global technological excellence.
