Dhaka, 4 November 2026: Grameenphone has introduced Bangla QR payments at its Gulshan Experience Centre in partnership with Mutual Trust Bank PLC (MTB), becoming the first telecommunications operator in Bangladesh to introduce the QR-based payment facility.
The launch ceremony was attended by Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, as the chief guest. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director and CEO of MTB, and Yasir Azman, CEO of Grameenphone, were also present.
Other senior Grameenphone representatives attending the event included Farha Naz Zaman, Chief Marketing Officer; Tanveer Mohammad, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer; and Otto Risbakk, Chief Financial Officer. Senior management representatives from both organisations also joined the occasion.
The initiative is aimed at making everyday transactions simpler through QR-based payments while supporting the expansion of digital financial services and financial inclusion.
Bangla QR is a national interoperable QR payment standard that enables customers to make digital payments by scanning a QR code. Its wider adoption is expected to support a more connected payment ecosystem by making cashless transactions accessible across participating financial service providers.
The partnership brings together Grameenphone’s telecommunications network and MTB’s banking services to extend digital payment experiences beyond traditional banking channels.
The introduction of Bangla QR marks another step in the growing collaboration between the telecommunications and financial services sectors, as businesses increasingly adopt digital solutions to improve customer convenience and support a cashless economy.
