City Bank PLC’s Managing Director & CEO Mashrur Arefin has been awarded the “CEO of the Year—2025” (Financial Institutions Category) at the 4th Bangladesh C-Suite Awards, organized by the Bangladesh Brand Forum.
The recognition highlights Mashrur’s three decades of leadership excellence, strategic innovation, and his pivotal role in shaping the country’s banking industry.
Over the last six years under his leadership, City Bank has recorded remarkable growth:
- Operating profit increased from Tk699 crore (2018) to Tk2,351 crore (2024)
- Net profit rose from Tk202 crore to Tk1,085 crore
- ROE surged from 8.2% to 26.1%
- Total capital more than doubled
In 2024, Bangladesh Bank declared City Bank the #1 Sustainable Bank, recognizing its governance standards, green financing initiatives and operational performance.
Mashrur has also driven the bank’s digital transformation—strengthening Citytouch, introducing innovative services like the Digital Nano Loan, and expanding access to modern financial services across the country.
Beyond banking, he is an established writer—an award-winning novelist, poet and translator—and currently chairs the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB). He also serves as Chairperson of Swift Bangladesh and sits on the board of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The Bangladesh C-Suite Awards honor leaders who demonstrate integrity, strategic foresight and measurable impact. Past winners from the financial sector include Ali Reza Iftekhar (EBL), Syed Mahbubur Rahman (MTBL), and Kamal Quadir (bKash).
