Pakistan has proposed forming a formal maritime cooperation framework with Bangladesh to strengthen collaboration in shipping, port management, and seafarer development. The proposal aims to formalize future cooperation between Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) and Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC).
Under the proposed framework, both countries would work on joint container and bulk shipping services, expand technical and professional training, and introduce reciprocal port-call facilitation for the mutual use of ports. Additionally, Pakistan has suggested launching a permanent platform called the Pakistan–Bangladesh Maritime Dialogue, where high-level discussions on maritime trade, port development, naval security, the blue economy, and regional shipping policy would be held on a regular basis.
Pakistan further stated that if Bangladesh seeks support, it is prepared to back Bangladesh in the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Category C election—a move seen as a positive signal toward strengthening diplomatic and maritime cooperation between the two nations.
According to maritime trade experts, if implemented, the proposed structure could create new opportunities in cargo logistics, port connectivity, seafarer skill development, and regional trade expansion. Integrated services between PNSC and BSC could significantly enhance South Asia’s maritime commerce.
