Dhaka, January 15, 2026 — To further strengthen financial and social inclusion in the country, MetLife Bangladesh has invested Tk 50 crore in the country’s first social bond issued by BRAC Bank PLC. This investment is being viewed as a significant milestone in sustainable and responsible financing.
According to a press release, the funds raised through the social bond will be used to support women entrepreneurs, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), affordable housing, healthcare, the agricultural sector, and climate-resilient projects. The initiative is expected to expand financial opportunities for marginalized and underserved communities across the country.
Ala Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MetLife Bangladesh, said the investment reflects MetLife’s long-term commitment to Bangladesh’s sustainable development and the expansion of financial inclusion. He added that the company is proud to contribute to social development in partnership with a responsible financial institution like BRAC Bank.
Tarek Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director and CEO of BRAC Bank, said that financing through the social bond will be directed toward sectors that directly contribute to improving people’s quality of life.
Experts believe that this investment will have a positive impact on the country’s social development, sustainable economic growth, and the promotion of a culture of responsible investment.
