Dhaka, Bangladesh: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has seized and frozen movable and immovable assets worth Tk 30,351 crore in 2025, marking the highest figure in the past seven years, according to data from the ACC’s Asset Management Unit.
As reported by The Daily Star, the commission secured 370 court orders throughout the year to carry out these actions, reflecting intensified enforcement against suspected illegal asset accumulation.
On average, assets worth approximately Tk 2,529 crore were seized and frozen each month in 2025, highlighting the scale of ongoing anti-corruption operations.
Extensive Asset Seizures and Freezing Orders
In 2025, the ACC obtained 221 court orders to seize immovable assets within Bangladesh, including 6,979.43 acres of land, 91 houses, 59 buildings, 192 flats, 60 plots, 450 vehicles, along with commercial properties such as shops, markets, ships, and other valuable holdings. The total value of these seized domestic immovable assets was estimated at over Tk 6,137 crore.
Additionally, assets worth Tk 96.53 crore were seized abroad, including flats, vehicles, and houses located in foreign jurisdictions.
Through 256 separate court orders, the ACC also froze movable assets worth more than Tk 23,172 crore domestically and Tk 944 crore internationally. These include 6,847 bank accounts, over 60 crore shares across 421 companies, fixed deposit receipts (FDRs), savings certificates, lockers, pay orders, investments, foreign currencies, and gold holdings.
Rising Enforcement Activity
The ACC’s enforcement activities have also expanded significantly in 2025. A total of 400 new inquiries were initiated alongside 717 pending cases from the previous year, bringing the total to 909 inquiries. Of these, 163 were completed, while 449 were converted into formal cases.
At the investigation stage, 794 cases were under review, with 129 completed and 104 resulting in charge sheets.
In asset-related investigations, 54 charge sheets were filed out of 70 completed cases, while money laundering investigations also progressed with multiple charge sheets submitted.
Official Statement
Speaking to The Daily Star, Manjur Morshed, Director of the ACC’s Asset Management Unit, said that the commission takes court action whenever suspected illegal assets are identified during investigations.
“As part of this process, assets worth over Tk 30,351 crore were seized and frozen last year under court orders,” he said, adding that efforts are ongoing to repatriate frozen assets held abroad through international cooperation.
