To further strengthen Bangladesh’s border security, the government has decided to establish three new battalions and create 2,258 additional positions under the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) as part of its structural expansion plan. This initiative aims to make patrol, surveillance, intelligence operations, and defense systems across border areas more efficient and modernized.
According to senior government sources, the addition of new battalions and personnel will bring a significant boost to border protection. Currently, BGB members guard approximately 4,427 kilometers of Bangladesh’s borders around the clock. With the new recruits, patrol coverage will expand, enhancing the country’s ability to curb cross-border crimes such as smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and illegal arms trading.
Defense analysts note that Bangladesh is becoming stronger in both technological and human resource aspects of border security. In recent years, BGB has been equipped with modern tools, vehicles, drones, and advanced communication systems, alongside initiatives to enhance member training and operational efficiency.
A senior BGB official stated that the integration of new battalions and additional personnel will bring better coordination in patrol operations and strengthen the force’s preparedness to protect national sovereignty.
Moreover, plans are underway to improve community relations in border areas, implement development programs, and enhance information exchange through digital systems.
It is worth mentioning that in recent years, the Bangladesh government has accelerated infrastructure development, outpost establishment, and installation of advanced security technologies along the borders as part of its national security strategy. In continuation of that vision, this decision to create new battalions and positions marks a significant milestone in the nation’s security landscape.
