Dhaka: Tanzil Amin Shuvo, founder and chairman of volunteer-led organisation Moshal Alo, has received the 2026 Diana Award in recognition of his work in community development and humanitarian service.

According to the award’s official Roll of Honour, the recognition highlights Moshal Alo’s efforts to improve access to safe drinking water in northern Bangladesh through its Pure Water Initiative.

Launched in February 2025, the initiative has installed 17 tube wells in Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari district. The organisation estimates that more than 1,700 people collect drinking water from these wells every day. Before the initiative, residents in some areas had to walk one to two kilometres to access water.

Tanzil’s journey in social work began in 2015, when he and a group of school friends established Moshal Alo in Tangail. Their first initiative involved distributing 10 pieces of winter clothing to people in need.

Over nearly 11 years, the organisation has carried out around 58 projects covering disaster relief, blood donor support, educational assistance for financially disadvantaged students, livelihood support and mental health awareness.

“The award carries my name, but Moshal Alo’s volunteers deserve the credit. Their hard work made each project possible,” Tanzil said.

Building on its work connecting patients with blood donors, Moshal Alo is also developing an app designed to help patients reach potential donors more quickly during medical emergencies.

“We want patients to reach potential donors quickly in an emergency. We plan to make the app available to the public soon,” Tanzil said.

Established in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, the Diana Award recognises young people for their contributions to social action and humanitarian work.

Tanzil completed his LL.B. (Hons.) at BRAC University in 2024 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the Australian College of Applied Professions University in Melbourne, Australia.

His recognition places a spotlight on the work of Moshal Alo and its volunteers, whose initiatives have supported communities through practical, locally driven solutions.
