Turkish business leaders have expressed strong interest in investing in Bangladesh’s electronics and electrical equipment sector, both through joint ventures and independent projects, driven by rising domestic demand and expanding market opportunities.
The interest was highlighted by Burak Basegmezlar, Vice President of the Turkish Electro Technology Exporters’ Association (TET), during a bilateral trade discussion with the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) held at Gulshan Centre in Dhaka on Wednesday. Turkish Ambassador to Bangladesh Ramis Şen also attended the meeting.
Basegmezlar said Bangladesh presents significant demand for electronic equipment, home appliances, generators and related products, making it an attractive destination for Turkish investors seeking long-term opportunities.
“There is significant demand in Bangladesh for electronic equipment, home appliances, generators and similar products. Investors from Türkiye are interested in making both joint and independent investments in these sectors,” he said.
He further announced that a delegation of Turkish entrepreneurs from the electronics and electrical equipment sector is scheduled to visit Bangladesh in November this year. The visit will include business-to-business (B2B) sessions and discussions with local private sector stakeholders aimed at strengthening cooperation and exploring new investment avenues.
Turkish Ambassador Ramis Şen said there is considerable scope for expanding bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Türkiye, stressing that stronger private sector linkages will be key to unlocking this potential. He also emphasized the role of DCCI as a bridge in facilitating business collaboration between the two countries.
Welcoming the delegation, DCCI President Taskeen Ahmed said Bangladesh and Türkiye share longstanding friendly relations and expressed optimism that such engagements would help deepen trade and investment ties.
He noted that total bilateral trade between the two countries stood at around $1.05 billion in FY2024–25, with Bangladesh importing $416.76 million worth of goods from Türkiye and exporting $634.53 million.
Taskeen Ahmed also said Turkish investors have already invested $74.05 million in Bangladesh across various sectors and encouraged them to explore additional opportunities in readymade garments, leather and footwear, jute goods, agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, light engineering, ICT, software, home textiles and consumer goods.
DCCI Senior Vice President Razeev H Chowdhury and Vice President Md. Salem Sulaiman were also present at the meeting.
