Dhaka, The Daily Corporate
bKash, Bangladesh’s largest mobile financial services (MFS) provider, reported a strong financial performance in the first quarter of 2026, with net profit rising 40% year-on-year to Tk184 crore, supported by steady revenue growth and increasing customer engagement on its digital platform.
According to the unaudited financial statements of the BRAC Bank subsidiary, the company’s total revenue increased by 10% to Tk1,802 crore during the January–March quarter of 2026.
Speaking to the media, bKash Chief Financial Officer Moinuddin Mohammad Rahgir said the company has continued to demonstrate the sustainability of its business model while playing an important role in building a more inclusive financial ecosystem for millions of people across Bangladesh.
He noted that continuous investment in technology infrastructure, regulatory compliance, and cybersecurity has helped strengthen customer trust and increase engagement on the platform. A growing number of users are now conducting transactions regularly, reflecting rising confidence in digital financial services in the country.
According to Rahgir, the higher level of platform usage has significantly contributed to the company’s revenue and profit growth. He added that as Bangladesh continues moving toward a more cashless and digitally connected economy, bKash plans to continue investing in digital commerce, payment solutions, and financial technology infrastructure.
Founded in 2010 as a joint venture between BRAC Bank and US-based Money in Motion LLC, bKash officially launched commercial operations in 2011. The company remained profitable until 2018 but later faced losses between 2019 and 2021 due to aggressive investments aimed at expanding its services and technology capabilities.
Company officials said bKash returned to profitability in the July–September quarter of 2022 and has maintained consistent growth since then.
Industry insiders say one of the key factors behind bKash’s long-term growth has been its investors’ “patient capital” approach, where profits were reinvested into business expansion instead of being distributed as dividends. This strategy helped the company strengthen its technological foundation and scale its services nationwide.
Currently, BRAC Bank holds a 51% stake in bKash. Other major shareholders include Money in Motion LLC, Alipay Singapore E-Commerce, International Finance Corporation (IFC), and SVF II BEAM (DE) LLC.
According to company data, bKash now serves more than 80 million customers through a network of around 350,000 agents across the country.
At present, the company charges Tk18.50 per thousand for cash-out transactions, while fund transfers between accounts carry a charge of Tk5 per transaction.
