Dhaka, May 2026: Apex Footwear Limited recently hosted a high-level European Union delegation at its manufacturing facility in Shafipur, Gazipur, showcasing Bangladesh’s growing capabilities in sustainable leather processing and world-class footwear production.
The delegation was led by European Union Ambassador H.E. Michael Miller and included German Ambassador H.E. Dr. Rudiger Lotz and Italian Ambassador H.E. Antonio Alessandro. The visit focused on understanding how Bangladesh’s leather and footwear sector is adopting global sustainability standards and advanced manufacturing practices.
During the visit, the delegation toured Apex Footwear’s tannery unit, recognized as the first Leather Working Group (LWG) Gold-rated facility in Bangladesh. The visitors were introduced to environmentally responsible leather processing systems, renewable energy integration, modern manufacturing technologies, and internationally aligned operational practices.
The delegation also explored Apex’s footwear production lines, where they observed skilled craftsmanship, advanced production capabilities, and innovative design development processes that support the company’s export operations and global market presence.
The visit was coordinated by the OSHE Foundation under the leadership of Project Head Alam Hossain and hosted by Apex Footwear’s senior management, including Managing Director Syed Nasim Manzur and GM of International Business Md Nasrullah.
Founded as an export-oriented tannery in 1976, Apex expanded into footwear exports in 1990 before entering the domestic retail market in 1997. Since becoming a fully Bangladeshi-owned company in 1990, Apex has played a significant role in generating foreign exchange earnings, creating employment opportunities, and investing in technology and workforce development within the country’s leather sector.
According to Apex officials, the visit reflects growing international interest in Bangladesh’s sustainable manufacturing ecosystem and the country’s potential to strengthen its position in the global leather and footwear industry.
Members of the EU delegation expressed appreciation for Apex’s environmental initiatives, diverse management culture, operational standards, and use of European technology and expertise in manufacturing processes.
The visit also highlighted the increasing collaboration between Bangladesh’s export-oriented industries and international stakeholders working to promote responsible and sustainable industrial growth.
