Dhaka, Bangladesh: A total of 3,413 students from Dhaka and Chattogram have been recognised for their academic progress at the BRAC Kumon ASHR 2026 (Advanced Student Honour Roll), highlighting growing adoption of self-learning-based education in Bangladesh.

The event was held on Friday, April 24 at the Multipurpose Hall of BRAC University and organised in two sessions. It brought together students, parents, Kumon instructors, and representatives from various educational and development institutions.

At present, nearly 10,000 students across Bangladesh are learning through the Kumon Method under BRAC Kumon Limited, which operates 35 centres in Dhaka and Chattogram. The programme began its journey in 2017 with a single centre in Dhanmondi and has since expanded significantly.

Recognition for Independent Learning

The ASHR programme recognises students who are studying one to five years or more ahead of their school grade level through consistent practice and self-learning techniques. This year’s recognition reflects a growing trend of students in Bangladesh developing independent learning habits through structured academic routines.

Dignitaries and Guests

The event was attended by State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, and Saida Shinichi, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh.

The programme was chaired by Asif Saleh, Executive Director of BRAC and Chairperson of BRAC Kumon Limited.

Speaking at the event, Bobby Hajjaj emphasized the importance of improving primary education quality in Bangladesh, noting that collaborative efforts between government and private sector initiatives like Kumon could help scale better learning outcomes nationwide.

Ambassador Saida Shinichi highlighted that the recognition not only celebrates academic achievement but also helps build confidence and self-awareness among students. He also shared his personal connection to the Kumon Method, stating that he himself had been a Kumon student up to Level I.

Asif Saleh noted that the Kumon Method helps students develop independent learning abilities, which are essential in adapting to a rapidly changing world. He stressed the importance of expanding such learning approaches across Bangladesh.

Focus on Self-Learning Development

Nehal Bin Hasan, Chief Business Officer of BRAC Kumon, presented insights on how the Kumon Method supports academic growth. He highlighted that the English programme strengthens reading comprehension skills, which are critical for academic success, admission tests, and everyday communication.

Cultural Integration and Theme

This year’s ASHR was organised under the theme “The Japanese Spirit of Mastery,” incorporating cultural elements from Japan. The event featured live Taiko drum performances along with Manga and Shodō art activities, creating an engaging environment for students and attendees.

Expansion and Growth

Since its inception in 2017, BRAC Kumon has expanded to 35 centres and continues to focus on building self-learning skills, discipline, confidence, and long-term academic habits among students.

The event was supported by several partner organizations including Aarong, BRAC Bank, Aarong Dairy, IPDC Finance PLC, and others.

Representatives from BRAC, Kumon Institute of Education, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), MUFG Bank Ltd., Ekmattra Entrepreneurs Ltd., Bangladesh SEZ Ltd., and BRAC University were also present.
