Dhaka, June 30, 2026: Bangladesh has received investment proposals worth $9.21 billion from 11 leading Chinese companies and state-owned enterprises following a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in Beijing on 25 June. The proposals span infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, logistics, education, environmental services, and technology sectors, signaling growing Chinese interest in Bangladesh’s economy.

According to investment proposals reviewed by multiple media outlets, the largest commitment came from China’s Sichuan Road and Bridge Group, which expressed interest in investing $4.5 billion in the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The project is expected to strengthen one of Bangladesh’s most important economic corridors and improve national connectivity.

Environmental and sustainability-focused investments also featured prominently. Zhongxin Environmental Protection Group proposed $1.65 billion for an e-waste recycling and disposal facility at the Payra Port Industrial Zone, while Shanghai Environment Co. Ltd. expressed interest in investing approximately $800 million in waste-to-energy projects across Dhaka and surrounding industrial regions.

In the manufacturing and technology sectors, Shenzhen Kaifa Technology plans to establish a smart electric meter manufacturing plant with a proposed investment of $250 million, while CRRC Ziyang has shown interest in developing a rolling stock assembly facility in partnership with Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory. Textile manufacturer Huasin Textile Industries also proposed investments in recycled cotton production, lithium battery manufacturing, and renewable energy generation.

The logistics sector attracted significant attention as well. SF Express, one of China’s largest logistics companies, proposed investing $180 million in cold-chain logistics and bonded warehouse facilities at Mongla Port, a move that could support Bangladesh’s growing e-commerce and export industries. Meanwhile, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation proposed $650 million for the development of the Mongla Port Economic Zone and related logistics infrastructure.

Additional proposals include a $270 million investment by China Kepel Education Group to establish universities and vocational training institutes, and a $190 million project by China Shandong Zhongxin Pharmaceutical to develop a large-scale medicinal herb cultivation industry aimed at exporting products to China. The pharmaceutical project is expected to create substantial employment opportunities if implemented.

The investment proposals emerged during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s first official visit to China since taking office. The visit focused on attracting foreign investment, expanding trade, and strengthening bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries. Bangladesh and China also discussed collaboration in infrastructure, green technology, healthcare, education, and regional connectivity initiatives.

Officials from the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) have cautioned that the proposed figures are preliminary and remain subject to due diligence and further negotiations before any final commitments are made. However, the scale of the proposals highlights Bangladesh’s growing appeal as an investment destination and reflects increasing confidence among Chinese investors in the country’s long-term economic prospects.
