South Era Network (SEN) has released the highly anticipated second episode of its documentary series, “Between Two Futures.”
The documentary series shows the nation-wide uprising of July 2024, the aftermath of Sheikh Hasina fleeing to India, the formation of the interim government, and the preparation for the upcoming election in Bangladesh.
The interim government will conduct the national parliamentary election and referendum on February 12.
The second episode provides a compelling examination of Bangladesh’s contemporary political landscape, tracing the journey from the historic July 2018 student-led uprising to the formation of a new political force and the imminent national parliamentary election.
The documentary meticulously charts the transition of the grassroots protest movement into formal political engagement. It features prominent leaders of the July uprising, including Nahid Islam, Hasnat Abdullah, and Asif Mahmud, who have since spearheaded the formation of the National Citizen Party (NCP).
At its core, Episode 2 poses a critical question to the nation: “After 18 months, are the children of July ready for the upcoming national parliamentary election?” It investigates whether the energy and ideals of the street protests can be translated into a viable political alternative, offering voters a distinct choice amidst the established political paradigms.
It delves into the internal and external challenges facing the NCP, from organizing a base and articating policy to navigating the dynamics of an election. It also illustrates NCP’s contrasts with the two other major political parties, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami.
The documentary series “Between Two Futures” is more than a historical record; it is a timely analysis of a potential shift in Bangladesh’s political consciousness.
