Dhaka Bank PLC has appointed Osman Ershad Faiz as its managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO).
Faiz brings more than three decades of international banking experience, having held senior leadership roles across global financial institutions. His expertise spans banking strategy, technology, operations, digital transformation, core banking platforms and financial technology (FinTech), positioning him strongly to lead the bank in a rapidly evolving and increasingly complex financial landscape.
Before joining Dhaka Bank, Faiz served as additional managing director and chief operating officer (AMD & COO) of Eastern Bank PLC, a role he assumed in January 2025. Prior to that, he was the co-founder of Asia FiiT, an international banking and FinTech advisory firm headquartered in Singapore.
Faiz began his professional career as a management trainee at American Express in 1993. Over the years, he worked in various senior roles at Standard Chartered Bank, including managing director and chief operating officer of Standard Chartered Bank Singapore and managing director and chief information officer for wholesale banking in the eastern hemisphere. He also served as chief information and operating officer of AMTD Digital.
In addition, Faiz was a director of the Singapore Clearing House Association for five years and has been a fellow of the Institute of Banking and Finance, Singapore, since 2015.
Widely recognised for his leadership in technology and commitment to inclusive workplaces, Faiz received the “Legend” Award at the World CIO 200 Summit in 2023. He has also been featured multiple times in the HERoes Global Role Model lists, supported by INvolve, the Financial Times and Yahoo Finance, for his advocacy of women in business.
Commenting on the appointment, Abdul Hai Sarker, chairman of Dhaka Bank PLC, said the move comes at a defining moment for Bangladesh’s banking sector, when strong governance, disciplined execution and technology-led transformation are critical.
He said the board is confident that under Faiz’s leadership, Dhaka Bank will sharpen its strategic focus, strengthen its balance sheet, accelerate its digital and SME growth agenda, and deliver sustainable long-term value for customers, shareholders and communities.
In his remarks, Osman Ershad Faiz said he is honoured by the trust placed in him by the board and humbled to lead an institution that plays a significant role in Bangladesh’s economy. He said his priorities include deepening trust among clients and regulators, modernising platforms and processes, and enhancing services for individuals, businesses and institutions, while remaining committed to industry development and community engagement.
Faiz holds a BCom (Honours) degree and an MBA from Aligarh Muslim University. He has also completed executive education programmes at INSEAD and the University of Oxford’s Saïd Business School.
Established in 1995, Dhaka Bank PLC is one of the country’s leading private-sector financial institutions, providing corporate, retail, commercial, SME and Islamic banking services through its nationwide network. The bank also offers capital market and merchant banking services through its subsidiaries, Dhaka Bank Securities Limited and Dhaka Bank Investment Limited.
