Dhaka: BRAC Driving School has awarded certificates to 10 women who successfully completed its professional driving training programme, marking another step toward increasing women’s participation in Bangladesh’s transport sector.
The certificate-giving ceremony was held in Dhaka, where representatives from BRAC, road safety advocates, and industry stakeholders highlighted the importance of creating more opportunities for women in professional driving. The programme aims to equip women with technical driving skills, road safety knowledge, and confidence to pursue careers as professional drivers.
Speakers at the event noted that Bangladesh continues to face a shortage of trained women drivers, particularly in ride-sharing, corporate transport, and institutional transportation services. They emphasized that expanding women’s participation in the transport workforce can contribute to safer mobility, greater financial independence, and increased employment opportunities for women.
According to BRAC, the initiative is part of its broader efforts to promote economic empowerment and skills development for women. The organisation believes that access to professional training can help women overcome traditional barriers and enter sectors where female representation remains limited.
The newly certified drivers expressed optimism about their future careers and said the training had enhanced both their driving abilities and self-confidence. Organisers hope the programme will inspire more women to consider professional driving as a viable and rewarding profession.
BRAC officials also stressed that increasing the number of qualified women drivers can help create a more inclusive transport ecosystem while supporting the country’s broader goals of gender equality and workforce participation.
