Dhaka, 28 July 2026: Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has unanimously elected Anis Ahmed as the Chairman of its Board of Directors, effective 27 July 2026, marking a new chapter in the bank’s leadership as it looks to accelerate digital transformation and sustainable growth.
Prior to his appointment as Chairman, Anis Ahmed served as a member of EBL’s Executive Committee (EC) and previously chaired the bank’s Risk Management Committee (RMC).
A prominent entrepreneur and business leader, Anis Ahmed is the Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of MGH Group, a Singapore-headquartered multinational conglomerate operating across 26 countries. The group has a diversified business portfolio spanning supply chain solutions for global fast-fashion, e-commerce, automotive and electronics brands, logistics, private container terminals, airline ventures, airline distribution systems, food and beverage retail, and financial services.
Beyond his corporate leadership, Ahmed has played a significant role in Bangladesh’s startup ecosystem. He is the founder of ventures including Obhai, Waadaa.Insure, and Jatra, and has actively supported technology-driven startups and innovation-focused enterprises over the past decade.
Commenting on his appointment, Anis Ahmed said EBL is entering a new era of banking focused on empowering women in senior leadership, accelerating digital transformation, and evolving into a lifestyle-focused banking brand while building on the institution’s strong financial foundation.
He also highlighted the social impact initiatives of the Suhana and Anis Ahmed Foundation (SAAF), which has supported 268 July Freedom Fighters and expanded preventive healthcare programs for underprivileged students. The foundation has also established a 31-bed Children’s Haematology Ward at Bangladesh Medical University, contributing to improved treatment outcomes for pediatric patients.
With decades of international business experience and strategic leadership, Ahmed is expected to further strengthen EBL’s position as one of Bangladesh’s leading private commercial banks while driving innovation, customer-centric banking, and long-term value creation for stakeholders.
