Dhaka, April 22, 2026 — Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has announced the appointment of Hassan O. Rashid as its new Managing Director, marking a significant leadership transition at one of Bangladesh’s leading financial institutions.
Before rejoining EBL in this role, Hassan O. Rashid served as the Chief Executive Officer of Prime Bank PLC. With a distinguished career spanning more than 31 years, he has built extensive expertise across both local and multinational banking environments, holding senior leadership positions at global financial institutions including HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, and Crédit Agricole Indosuez.
A seasoned banker known for his strategic vision and transformation leadership, Hassan previously served as Additional Managing Director of EBL from 2015 to 2021. During that tenure, he played a key role in strengthening the bank’s market position, including doubling its balance sheet, expanding its trade finance portfolio, and introducing innovative financial instruments such as commercial papers and zero-coupon bonds.
His appointment is widely viewed as a continuation of EBL’s focus on sustainable growth, innovation, and operational excellence in Bangladesh’s evolving banking sector.
Beyond his corporate leadership, Hassan O. Rashid is actively engaged in professional and social organizations. He currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB) and is also associated with several social and recreational institutions, including the Rotary Club of Ramna and Kurmitola Golf Club.
Industry observers expect his leadership to further strengthen EBL’s strategic direction and reinforce its position as a leading player in Bangladesh’s financial sector.
