Dhaka, The Daily Corporate Desk
BRAC Bank has successfully arranged Bangladesh’s largest redeemable preference share issuance worth BDT 500 crore for United Mymensingh Power Limited (UMPL), marking a significant milestone in the country’s corporate financing sector.
The transaction was completed with participation from The City Bank PLC and Uttara Bank PLC, reflecting growing collaboration among local private-sector banks in financing large-scale industrial projects.
UMPL, a power generation company under United Group, secured the funding through redeemable preference shares, a financing instrument increasingly being used by corporates to raise long-term capital without diluting ownership.
Industry insiders described the deal as a landmark achievement for Bangladesh’s banking sector, highlighting the capability of local financial institutions to structure and execute complex, high-value financing solutions.
The successful issuance also demonstrates the increasing maturity of Bangladesh’s corporate financing ecosystem and the expanding role of banks beyond traditional lending activities.
Banking sector analysts believe such financing initiatives will play an important role in supporting industrial expansion, infrastructure development, and long-term economic growth in Bangladesh.
Officials involved in the transaction said the deal reflects strong confidence in the country’s private banking sector and its ability to support strategic national development projects through innovative financial solutions.
