Dhaka, Bangladesh — MTB Foundation recently organized a flag-off ceremony for Bangladeshi mountaineer Yasmin Lisa as she embarks on her high-altitude Himalayan expedition under the initiative titled “Sultana’s Dream Unbound.”
The ceremony was held as part of MTB Foundation’s climate-focused project, “Climbing for Climate, Building for Communities – A Climate Resilience Initiative of MTB Foundation.”
During the event, Yasmin Lisa was named a Climate Change Ambassador of MTB Foundation in recognition of her role in promoting awareness and supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening climate resilience at the grassroots level.
Inspired by Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain’s feminist utopian story Sultana’s Dream, the initiative is being supported by MTB Foundation in partnership with Abhijatri, founded by Nishat Mazumder.
According to the organizers, the initiative reflects MTB Foundation’s commitment to women’s empowerment and aims to encourage women to break barriers, demonstrate leadership, and contribute to inclusive social development.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Rais Uddin Ahmad, and Samia Chowdhury, along with Nishat Mazumder, Yasmin Lisa, and officials from Abhijatri.
Officials said the initiative combines climate awareness, community resilience, and women’s empowerment through adventure-based advocacy and social engagement.
