Md Obaidul Hoque has been appointed as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd..
Hoque brings over three decades of extensive experience in the banking sector, having built a distinguished career largely at Bangladesh Bank. During his tenure, he held several key leadership roles, ultimately serving as Executive Director.
In that capacity, he led the SME & Special Programmes Department and served as Project Director of the Second Small and Medium Sized Enterprise Development Project (SMEDP-2), contributing significantly to the growth of small and medium enterprises in Bangladesh.
His diverse experience at the central bank also includes heading the Khulna office and contributing to critical areas such as foreign exchange policy, on-site banking supervision, currency management, and administration. Over the years, he progressed through multiple senior roles, including Assistant Director, Deputy Director, Joint Director, Deputy General Manager, and General Manager.
Before taking on his current role, Hoque served as a board member and part of the executive committee at Janata Bank PLC. He also previously served as the Principal of the NRBC Bank Training Institute.
Industry observers believe that his extensive experience and leadership will play a key role in strengthening Bangladesh Commerce Bank’s strategic direction and operational performance.
