Dhaka, 27 July 2026: Grameen Bank has officially entered the cashless banking era with the launch of GPay, a new digital payment platform developed in partnership with Shamadhan Services Limited. The initiative is designed to digitise loan instalment and savings deposit collections, making financial transactions more secure, transparent, and convenient for millions of Grameen Bank members across Bangladesh.

The platform was unveiled as part of Grameen Bank’s 50th anniversary celebrations, with the inauguration of a GPay Experience Booth at the bank’s headquarters. The service enables members to pay loan instalments and deposit savings directly from their homes without handling cash, reducing operational risks while improving accessibility at the grassroots level.

According to Grameen Bank, GPay provides instant transaction confirmation, 24/7 customer support, and a secure digital payment experience. The platform will also introduce additional services in phases, including Bangla QR payments, as it evolves into a full-featured digital wallet supporting a broader range of financial transactions.

The launch represents a significant milestone in the digital transformation of Bangladesh’s microfinance sector. By replacing cash-based collections with digital payments, the bank aims to enhance transparency, improve operational efficiency, and expand financial inclusion among underserved communities.

Grameen Bank currently serves more than 10 million borrower members through one of the country’s largest microfinance networks. The introduction of GPay is expected to accelerate the adoption of digital financial services among rural customers while supporting Bangladesh’s broader transition toward a cashless economy.
